5 Recommended Morning Health Habits

Small changes to your morning routine that can have a big contribution to your overall health!

Whilst there is no such thing as a perfect morning routine, developing a few positive habits can start your day feeling organised, refreshed and ready for whatever the day may bring!

1. Start with Hydration.

Starting your day with a glass of water is a simple way to support hydration after an overnight fast by replacing lost fluids to help you feel more refreshed. Keeping a bottle or glass of water by your bedside can be a simple reminder to drink a little more water when you wake up.

Tip: Aim to drink a glass of water before reaching for your morning tea or coffee

2. Get Moving. Even For 5 Minutes.

A short walk, gentle stretching routine or a few minutes of yoga can be a great way to ease into the day. Consistency is often more important than intensity and even a few minutes each morning will add up over time!

Tip: Leave your walking shoes, workout clothes, or yoga mat somewhere visible the night before so that when you wake up, you can get moving without having to think about it.

3. Eat a Balanced Breakfast

Breakfast is often the first opportunity to sit down and enjoy some nourishment before the day gets busy. Rather than relying solely on quick, sugary options, consider taking the time to include a mix of:

  • Protein rich sources, such as eggs, yoghurt or protein oats

  • Fiber rich foods, such as whole grains and fruit

  • Healthy fats, such as nuts, seeds or olive oil

If you struggle with a jam-packed morning routine already, try preparing your breakfast foods the night before - for example, overnight oats with fruit.

Tip: Eggs are a popular breakfast choice. For a slightly soft yolk, boil them for around 8 minutes.

4. Let Some Natural Light In

Many of us spend a large proportion of our working day indoors, so taking a moment to enjoy some natural light in the morning can be a simple addition to your routine. Whether it is opening the curtains, stepping into the garden or enjoying your morning coffee by an open window, it can be a pleasant way to start the day.

Tip: Make it a 'curtains first' rule… Open your curtains before going on your phone.

5. Make it a Marathon, not a sprint

One of the biggest mistakes that people make is immediately trying to overhaul their routine. Instead, focus on one or two small changes and give yourself time to settle into them. Habits often feel more manageable when introduced gradually.

Why not choose a couple of ideas from this list and see how you get on…

  • Drink a glass of water when you wake up

  • Spend 5 minutes stretching

  • Eat a more balanced breakfast

  • Take your daily supplements

  • Get outside for some fresh air

  • Open your curtains or blinds as soon as you wake up

Simple routines are often the most sustainable!
